American Red Cross Lifeguard
Classes with CAATS.

CAATS is pleased to offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Classes. The course is approximately 32 hours in length. There is 1 pre-test session and usually 9 instructional sessions. Lifeguard classes include training in “First-Aid”, "AED" and “CPR for the Professional Rescuer.”

AGE 15+ VERIFICATION:
All Lifeguard certification participants must be at least 15 years of age by the end of the last scheduled class. Please bring your driver’s license/permit, birth certificate or passport with you for verification.

300 YARD, MULTIPLE STROKE SWIM
Participants must swim 300 yards continuously in the following routine: 100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick. 100 yards of breaststroke. Then 100 yards of either breaststroke or front crawl using rhythmic breathing . If you prefer, you may swim the last 100 yards as a mix of the two strokes. There’s no time limit on this pre-test.

you take this prerequisite test.

10LB OBJECT RETRIEVAL
Participants must swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke then surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object. Participant must then return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point while holding the object. There is a 100 second time limit on this retreival.

CAATS, CPR, AED and AQUATIC TRAINING SPECIALISTS


In addition to the full-length Lifeguard Training class, CAATS offers the “Review” Lifeguard Training class for lifeguards who need to renew their certifications, but are not quite ready to take the skill and written tests. A review class is about 10 to 12 hours in length.

A Lifeguard “Challenge” class is also available. This class consists of skill tests and a written exam. There is no instruction or review with a “Challenge” class.

When completed, your American Red Cross “Lifeguard” and “First-Aid” certifications are valid for 3 years. The “CPR for the Professional Rescuer”,“Oxygen Administration” ,“AED” and “PDT: BBP” certifications are valid for one year.

Become a certified Lifeguard with CAATS American Red Cross certification testing.

Modules (add-on / extended training) in “Oxygen Administration” and “BBP:PDT” are available at the conclusion of the standard class. The course can be conducted at your pool, or at the CAATS instructional center in Aurora, Illinois (map).

Prerequisites for the Lifeguard class:
• Age 15+ verification
• 300 yard, multiple stroke swim
• 10lb object retrieval
